Oral Sedation

Oral Sedation let you sleep during your dental appointment

It is our desire to provide you with the most up-to-date, comprehensive dental care available. Above all however, we want you to be totally comfortable and relaxed with little or no anxiety during each visit.

Imagine a dental visit in which you have little to no memory of the experience. . . No memory of sounds, sights or smells. Imagine an extended treatment appointment that seems like only minutes. You are completely relaxed with no anxiety about your treatment. Unlike general anesthesia, with oral sedation you are conscious, but sedated. Most people are so relaxed they just fall asleep naturally.

What is Oral Sedation?

Oral Sedation is a safe and effective way of relieving the fear and anxiety associated with going to the dentist. If needed, a mild relaxant is prescribed for the night before your appointment to help you to get a good nights rest. One hour before your appointment, you will take a single pill that will begin the sedation process. You must have someone drive you to your appointment.

Once you arrive we will escort you to the treatment room, where you will be made comfortable. Additional sedation medication may be administered to you if required. Your blood pressure and oxygen levels will be continually monitored. We have pillows and blankets available to keep you comfortable. No treatment will be started until you are totally relaxed. Most people fall asleep during treatment. When your treatment is completed, your friend or relative will drive you home, where you can take a soothing, relaxing nap.

Who is a Candidate for Oral Sedation?

  • You Have High Fear
  • You Have Had Traumatic or Unpleasant Dental Experiences
  • You Have Difficulty Getting Numb
  • You Have A Bad Gag Reflex or Gag Easily
  • Your Teeth Are Very Sensitive Teeth
  • You Have Complex Dental Issues
  • You Have Limited Time To Complete Your Treatment
  • You Have High Fear of Needles/Injections
  • You Don't Want To Hear Dental Noises
  • You Are Fearful Of Dental Smells and Tastes
  • You Are Afraid or Embarrassed About Your Teeth

What Kind of Treatment Can Be Done While Sedated?

Most any procedure can be done under Oral Sedation. Minor procedures including examinations with x-rays or professional cleanings to Major treatment such as multiple fillings, crowns, or bridges can be done while you are relaxed. Many patients choose to have cosmetic procedures done with sedation - such as veneers, crowns and onlays.
