Dental Bonding Escondido, CA
Small cracks, chips and stains can often be the only barrier preventing a person from a perfect smile. When it is just a small touch up, veneers seem too extensive, and teeth whitening would not do the trick. That’s why Robert J. Malone DDS offers bonding, a cosmetic procedure to touch-up the smile and bring it to perfection.
Bonding uses small amounts of composite resin to cover cracks, chips, stains and can even give your mouth the impression of a fuller smile.
Why Should I Have Bonding?
Bonding is an excellent way to have minor touch-ups, without having to get extensive treatment. It can be used to fill in small gaps between teeth, that would otherwise require braces or dental veneers. It can make teeth look bigger, or fuller, and allow you to change the shape of any tooth you are unhappy with.
The aforementioned are the cracks, chips and fractures that can be concealed behind bonding. Aside from bonding and veneers, the only real solution to crack/chipped teeth is to have them replaced with a synthetic tooth. Not only is this far more expensive, but the procedures are extensive and involve a lot more hassle.
Veneers are a close relative to bonding, as they use porcelain shells to cover the front of the teeth to create a more aesthetically pleasing smile. Bonding is less expensive and does not require the filing down of a tooth’s enamel, like veneers do.
What Happens During Bonding Treatment?
An initial consultation appointment allows you to talk through the process with us and see how we can help your smile. You can choose a resin to match the shade of your teeth, and see what touch-ups are viable for your mouth.
At the next appointment, the bonding resin will be ready, and customized for its application to your teeth. We will slightly roughen the enamel of the tooth, in order to allow the bonding to adhere properly. Then, a liquid is placed on the tooth, that acts as a glue between the enamel and resin.
When the resin is placed on the tooth, we will shape it, and mold it onto the tooth in the way that was agreed upon. The time taken to do this will depend on the difficulty of the procedure. Creating a new shape for a tooth will take longer, compared to covering up a small crack or chip.
Then, we position an ultraviolet light over your mouth, to allow the resin to solidify on the tooth, and complete the process. We will advise you not to drink any beverages that could stain the resin within the first 48 hours, such as tea of coffee.
The appointment should take 30-60 minutes, and the results can last anywhere between 5-10 years. A relatively easy procedure for results that can boost confidence for years to come.
